First Time

Today I want to post to my blog for the first time. I do not like blogs, but I thought that this might be a good way to keep people posted on my life's journey as we (my wife and I) leave the Bay Area for Texas. We do not know what life has in store for us there. We are excited about what will happen next. More than anything we are looking forward to being a part of the community of Dallas Theological Seminary.

Since we have been married it has been difficult to find community. Whitney has been commuting to SFSU, I work at Whole Foods in San Ramon, and we go to Regeneration in Oakland. At DTS we hope to connect to some people who are passionate about Jesus Christ and who believe in the power of preaching the Word.

I feel very strongly that I am called to preach the Bible in San Francisco. Many people have struggled with what it means to do ministry in the Bay Area. It is one of the most unique and challenging places in the world to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Although it is one of the most tolerant places on the planet, it is also one of the most resistant to Truth.

God called me to preach the Word specifically in a place and time where people would be resistant to sound doctrine. Instead they would turn aside to myths, and turn their itching ears to teachers who would tell them what they want to hear. In this setting I have been called to endure hardship and do the work of an evangelist. I know that I am called to the Bay Area, and I know that it will be difficult. I also know that I can do anything by the power of Christ at work in me.
