This morning started with me sleeping through a meeting that I was supposed to go to at work. That got me really down because WFM is anal about meetings and loves to fire people for missing them. Hopefully I will just get a final warning. Which is the joy of working in retail. Corrective action taken through the use of formal written warning. During my three years at WFM I have been written up for all kinds of things. Every time you are made to feel as though you are some sort disloyal, rebellious simpleton. I look forward to going in to work tonight, being taken to the "shed" so to speak and reminded once again that my position at WFM is precarious despite the 6,000+ hours I have faithfully put in.
So sleep through meeting, wake up just in time to be late to first class. Hmmmm. Thoughts of discouragement begin quickly mounting to the avalanche of despair. "What if I get fired?" AGHHH. "Your gonna be late for class! Don't you care about what you are studying?" BLAH BLAH BLAH.
Everything inside says you suck, you can't finish, you are wasting your time...
Then during chapel the speaker preaches out of 2 Timothy 4:6-8. Paul talks about fighting the fight. In a fight you throw some punches, but you also get punched. Today I am getting punched. That doesn't mean the fight is over. And that definitely does not mean the fight is over.
I haven't seen 300 yet but I am going to this weekend. I have however watched the beginning on some pirate website. I wish that I were raised in Sparta so that I would not be the wuss that I am at times. In a fight you get punched. Sometimes you get punched hard. Being punched does not mean that you cannot punch back and even destroy your foe.
So what is the way forward? "I beat my body and make it my slave. So that after preaching to others I myself might not be disqualified for the prize."
Jesus teach me to abide in you so that I might have the strength to fight the good fight.

Update- Andy wasn't even written up and he still has his job hooray!
you're scared of getting punched by vegan hippies? c'mooooooooon!!!!
also, 300 is friggin amazing. super graphic, so put yr seatbelt on and don't watch it for character development or anything, the story is told visually.
No not afraid of being hit by vegan hippies!! Just afraid of losing income benefits etc.
cattle on a thousand hills...
You are not a super-human, Andy. Everyone needs sleep sometimes and can't wake up and misses stuff. I'm glad you got away with it. WFM should be giving you awards and raises for all you have done for them.
