What's in a name?

SO yesterday I got iPhone #3. Not an upgrade, just an exchange for yet another defective phone. Here's how it went down...

ME: "my iPhone does not work. I have to restore it once a week just to get it to work."

GENIUS: "Oh, thats not a problem. I restore mine everyday...it's soo anoying, I can't wait until they release 2.0.1"

ME: "After I get the phone to turn on, it will randomly shut down, and reset. Sometimes while resetting it gets really hot, and then when it is back online it will not display properly. Characters will be missing and lines appear through whole sections of websites."

GENIUS: "Ok, thats weird. I haven't heard of that before..(BAM! while mid sentence the phone crashes). Mr. Thompson I am going to go ahead and give you a new phone."

The timing could not have been more perfect. So now I am on phone #3. My first phone went down within a week (the wifi would not shut down and burned through the battery in approx 6hrs). Number two lasted a little longer, but ultimately succombed. Now I have #3. Typically when you get a new phone, you take it home and restore it from your most recent back up of your dead phone. I chose not to because I am suspicious that my backup is somehow inherently flawed and will destroy the phone.

I even gave the phone a new name. My previous phones were both named Darkness. I thought it was funny because it reminded me of a favorite Chappelle Show skit. The new phone has been named Maximus after one of my heroes. The name evokes strength, honor and loyalty. My only hope is that some how the phone will strive to live up to its name.

Well dude. You can always be like me and not update your cell phone for nearly 3 years. It's an antique now, but it still works. I guess that's like saying my trousers from 1985 still fit and therefore are still good. Clearly not the case...
