Why I love the internets..

I have been reading a book my brother gave me while we were visiting called Lectures to My Students, by Charles Spurgeon. In one of the lectures I was reading today Spurgeon was warning his students to not waste their time. He suggested that they read an a essay called "On the Improvement of Time" by John Foster. I googled it, and sure enough the entire essay, published in 1866, was digitized and free to download as a pdf. I bet I had an easier time getting my hands on a copy than Spurgeons students. Amazing.

I have heard of an ancient 19th century device that may have been used by Spurgeon's students. It's called library. Apparently they house actual physical documents, like these books you speak of. Sounds tedious....

Tedious and treacherous...there might be only one copy and it might be checked out. The person who checked it out might keep it past its due date. Fines might applied to the delinquent book borrower. There might be a waiting list of students all wanting the same book. Librarians had to enforce order and rules upon borrowers. It was a mad, mad world back then. We are blessed that we are able to stay out of such difficult places as libraries these days.

Who is Rob Bell?

Dad you can google Rob Bell. He is a leader of a young adult oriented church and is often pegged as an emerging church leader although I am sure that he would disdain being labeled at all. My primary beef is that the pastor would waste pulpit time calling out/judging other ministers. Don't waste your breath! Save it for a focus group or any other time than Sunday.
