My good friend the Emperor

So lately I have been struggling with the futility of life. Crippling thoughts about how everything that we do in life is one day forgotten and of little importance. I know that I am trippin but the struggle is there and is real.

In times like these it helps to have friends. People who can understand what you are thinking/feeling, and who can offer wisdom. In the past the words of Marcus Aurelius have been helpful. Last night while out at Half Price Books with Whitney I picked up another copy of his Meditations to replace one that I no longer have. Just reading through a couple chapters greatly encouraged me. It is so cool to read what is essentially the personal journal of a man who once ruled the greatest empire of his day. I can't explain why I am encouraged by his writing. I just know that I am. Below is a sample...

"Suppose that a god announced to you that you were going to die tomorrow 'or the day after'. Unless you were a complete coward you would not kick up a fuss about which day it was- what difference could it make? Now, recognize that difference between years from now and tomorrow is just as small." 3.47
