This is one of my favorite things, our fruit fly trap. After a tenant asked what she could do to control the fruit flies in her apartment I did some research and came up with this:
2 parts Apple Cider vinegar 1 part water (Red wine at full strength is also very effective)
A small bowl or ramekin
saran wrap
Fill the bowl/ramekin just over half way with the liquid of choice. Cover with saran wrap. Poke a few holes in the saran wrap, just big enough for the flies to crawl in. They can't resist and once they crawl in their limited intelligence prevents them from getting out and eventually they die in the liquid. (If using red wine the kill time is much faster)
It is hard to see from the iPhone shot but there are at least six flies in this one that we set last night. Fruit flies are prolific in the semi-tropical Dallas environment. Our largest kill so far was 21 flies in a trap that we had out for 3 days. What blows my mind is that we rarely see the flies around the house, but if we put a trap out they find it. I had to share my secret after reading about Maya's adventures with her fly traps.

It sounds like you're hunting. All you need now is a narrator in the background describing what's happening in the mean time. You don't...... eat them.... do you?

I shall give it a try! I'll keep you posted with the results.
I guess the old proverb that you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar just went out the window.
Haven't tried honey but am intrigued at the possibility..
